The Bancroft Studio Tour is coming up fast! Black Spruce Art Works is a destination on the tour on the weekends of September 16, 17 & 23, 24. My guest artist is the amazing, award winning painter Carol Westcott.
My own work continues to be very much inspired by the surrounding landscape here in Hastings Highlands, and is at times verging towards the abstract.
Work from Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition July 14 — 16
TOAE was lots of fun and a great success!! I had a wonderful time seeing many familiar faces and meeting lots of new ones. A huge thank you to all who came out, and to those who added one of my paintings to their collections!
Spring at Black Spruce Art Works, Maynooth!
My little gallery is all spruced up for spring, with fresh paint on the walls and many new paintings hanging — some from my Art Gallery of Bancroft show, some newer still — and lots more in progress in the studio. The weather is warming up and there seem to be more visitors every weekend here in the busy town of Maynooth!
Art Gallery of Bancroft April 5 to 29
Invocation is the title of my show at the Art Gallery of Bancroft. I have sixteen large paintings — mostly brand new — which depict my feelings of intimacy and belonging to the northern environment where I now reside.
I am leading a workshop at the gallery on Sunday April 23 called “Liberate your Landscapes” about creating personal and painterly work from your photos.
This is my exhibition statement:
Invocation
[in-vuh-key-shuh n]
noun
1. the act of invoking or calling upon a deity, spirit, Muse, etc., for aid, protection, inspiration, or the like.
For all my painting life, I’ve been a painter of landscapes: big skies, open vistas, distant woods and evocative atmospheres. And all my life, I’ve lived in the city. That landscape was something I dreamed of, and longed to be in, and would head to at any opportunity.
And now I live here, in the place I’ve always painted. And there has been a subtle shift in what I paint – no longer are my landscapes dreamy, distant, idealized places, but real, rugged and textured. My muse lives in these woods, and I am feeling the roughness of the bark, I’m hearing the rustlings and chirrupings, and smelling the brackish water of the bog. I am now a part of the place I paint.
Kingsway-Lambton United Church Show & Sale April 1
I had a terrific show at the Kingsway-Lambton United Church. Thanks to all who came out to this fantastic event!
Exhibit at Kidd Gallery, Kingston General Hospital: March & April 2017
I have thirteen paintings — some brand new, some from over the past year ‑on display in the busy Kidd Gallery at the Kingston General Hospital. The show is up until the end of April.
New paintings for December
The winter is my favourite time to be in the studio. I’ve completed these three pieces over the last few weeks, cozy indoors with the wood stove crackling, while it blusters and blows and snows out my windows. I love it!
