Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition: July 6, 7, 8!

Merganser, 12″ x 12″ encaustic and oil on panel

The 51st  Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition is less than one short week away!
I have been working feverishly (partly due to the heat compounded by a hot griddle, electric frying pans and a propane torch, no doubt) in preparation for this show. TOAE is typically my most fun — and most successful! — show of the season.  I’m really looking forward to this year’s show, and I’m totally pumped about my new work!
Due to construction/renovation on Nathan Phillips Square, it has not been an easy task for show coördinators to finalize booth locations. My location is Booth 125, and even though it shows on the current map as in the white section, I will in fact be located in Green — which is the area on the grass, between Queen Street and the paved part of the square (hopefully  under some trees!)

ArtSpin and Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition

I’m very proud to be taking part in the 51st Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition, July 6, 7, 8 at Nathan Phillips Square — six short weeks away!! I am knee deep in wax and paper scraps — wading through wooden panels in various stages of completion — on my way to creating lots of brand new encaustic work for the show.

Spring Migration 24″ x 48″ encaustic, oil and paper, available at MJG Gallery, Toronto

In other news, for iPad users, the first volume of the exclusive iPad app, ArtSpin is now available on the iTunes Store:
http://itunes.apple.com/ca/book/artspin.01/id523775428?mt=11

Volume One of ArtSpin features 15 wonderful artists — including me! About 15 pieces of artwork can be viewed for each artist, along with an insightful interview. I think ArtSpin is a really neat concept — it provides a way for art lovers to discover exciting new art and connect directly with the artists.

I’m Still Dreaming of Flight 20″ x 60″ encuastic, paper and oil on panel SOLD

I’m Still Dreaming of Flight” is a just-completed commissioned painting. The clients knew they wanted a piece 20″ x 60″, and when they visited my studio, spotted my very red painting “Map 30” — which inspired them to become as excited about red as I have been lately. So I very happily indulged their request, with this quite red painting that continues to explore my favourite themes of journeying, navigation, maps and birds.

Best in Show!!

Me and “Navigation/Starlings & Stars”, which was awarded Best in Show at the OSA’s 139th Annual Open Juried Exhibition, “Darkness & Light”

I was absolutely thrilled to attend the reception of the Ontario Society of Artists 139th Annual Open Juried Exhibition at the John B. Aird Gallery last night, to learn my painting “Navigation/starlings & stars” (posted January 31) had been awarded Best in Show! This is the OSA’s 139th open juried show, and the title and theme of the show is “Darkness and Light”. With 300 some images to jury, I was delighted enough to have been one of the 39 artists selected.… but to have my work chosen as Best in Show…?! Well, I’m still reeling!
